500g of boneless and skinless chicken legs without excess fat
1 large onion cut in half and thinly sliced
¼ cup of olive oil
2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice
2 teaspoons of garlic powder
1 teaspoon of dried oregano
½ teaspoon of salt plus more for seasoning
¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper plus more for seasoning
6 warmed pita bread
Tzatziki sauce for serving


  1.  Place the chicken and onion in the slow cooker.
  2.  In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, lemon juice, garlic powder, oregano, salt and pepper. Pour the
    mixture over the chicken and onion and toss to coat.
  3. Cover and cook over low heat for 8 hours or until chicken is tender.
  4.  Transfer the chicken to a cutting board.
  5. Cut the chicken with two forks, then return it to the slow cooker. Shake.
  6.  Season with more salt and pepper if needed.
  7. Serve the chicken and onions with the pita and pass the Tzatziki sauce and chopped vegetables if desired.
